Design for Happiness
Design for Perception

Perception, Happiness, and Human Emotion are topics often taken up by Researchers, Psychologists, and Behavioural Economists. This project is an attempt to break that barrier and explore how Design can contribute to this data intensive field.

The project has discovered that Design thinking is able to tackle the topic of Human Emotion with a creative touch while respecting the individual identity of every person. Design Research tools provide a holistic approach to the study as well as sharing of the study, both of which are crucial for the project’s growth.

Whether it’s Plato’s Chariot and Charioteer, Freud's selfish id and conscious superego or simply the planner and the does, there’s a metaphor that helps us look at situations with a new lens and as a result, think, feel and act more effectively. We’ll call it the
Elephant and the Rider, as Buddha once did. Our emotional side is the Elephant and our rational side is the Rider. Perched atop the Elephant, the Rider holds the reins and seen to be the leader. But the Rider’s control is precarious because the Rider
is so small relative to the Elephant. Anytime the six-ton Elephant and the Rider disagree about which direction to go, the Rider is going to lose. He’s completely over matched. The big take away here is that change can come easily when Elephants and Riders move
together.

This project has been a personal journey of a steep growth curve for us.
Through it, we wish to prove that it is possible to venture in a topic as complex as Human
emotions. We wish to inspire more designers to take up this challenge, for Design,
and for their own selves.
